You would think that social networking and cats have nothing in common right? Well, I have a surprise for you. We react very similar. Deep down, both our feline friends and us are primal beings who react in primal ways to different situations. We are frightened when someone threatens us. We enjoy companionship. Realistically, there are very few differences between the lowliest bug and humans.

We only pretend to separate ourselves to satisfy our ego, which is exactly what a bug would do if they were smarter than us.

Now, what does this diatribe have to do with social networking? Can you please get to the point?

When we observe animals, such as cats and how they react to various stimuli, you will notice how similar it is when people are presented with offers online.

Recently, my wife and I shot a video where she would move her hands back and forth as our two younger cats watched in unison. It was quite hilarious. At the same time, it reminded me of the fact that when you create something really interesting for humans, we do the same thing.

How many people stand outside a Best Buy or Apple store the night before to get the latest iPod, iPad, iPhone, and other similar I’s? Is it really worth an all-nighter, when we both know you will be back in the same position next for the next new device?

So let’s see how we can do this in 2 simple steps through social networking:

  1. Create something that will interest people. Make it engaging, and people will want to know more about it. Not everyone will buy, but you will have a lot of money in the register if you create something that intrigues them.

  2. Make sure that your product or service actually benefits your prospect. You can get them in the door with a shiny device, but to stay they must see the quality behind the device.

  3. Actually add a little extra, such as noticing that I said two steps above. This is your bonus feature. Give a little more than what people asked for, and you will receive a lot in return.

How do you utilize social networking to engage your prospects? Do you provide them with tons of quality content? Maybe you spend a lot of time wining and dining online them as you build up a relationship, so they will purchase from you? What is your secret sauce that makes social networking mutually beneficial for all?
