Throughout my years in the Edinburgh removal industry I have seen it all. I've seen people paying way over the odds for the removal of a small property with minimal items and I've seen people alarmed when they've hired a man with a van to move a well furnished four bedroom property and he struggles to cope with the sheer size of the removal required. Below I've listed some simple rules to follow when choosing a removal company, these should help you to find a moving company which best suits your needs.
- Price isn't everything.
Some people look for the cheapest possible way to move home and whilst it's always a good idea to look after your wallet, it's even more important to remember the old saying "you get what you pay for". Whilst many removal companies in Edinburgh may claim to offer the lowest prices you should ask yourself if there's a hidden cost. Is the company insured? Not just their vehicle but what about your possessions? Always ask to see proof of insurance, a removals company who has insurance won't have any issues showing you relevant documentation.
- Using a large company is best suited to people with larger properties or office moves.
Whilst larger removal companies generally offer a hassle free and very professional service it does come with a high price tag. That's why using the larger companies is always best suited to people who are looking to move a large property with lots of furniture and possessions. If you choose to hire a small removals company, you may find that they stuggle to cope with the amount of items to be moved and that they may not fit it all in their vehicle. If you're moving office or business premises it is always advisable to choose a larger removal company as they will charge VAT which you as a business can claim back.
- If you're only moving a few items, use a small mover.
If you're only moving a few items of furniture or have very limited possessions you'll find using a small removal company to be to your advantage. The smaller movers will charge less for what is still a quality service because they have less overheads. You may even be surprised when you receive their quote.
- Consult your friends and family.
One of the best ways to find a reliable Edinburgh moving company is to ask your friends and family which company they used when they moved home. You'll find that if they've received a good service from a moving company, they'll be more than happy to recommend them and pass on their contact details.
I hope these rules will help you in finding the right removal company for your needs and that your move is stress free experience.
