Induction Training: The Best Place to Set Your Standard For Safety

Imagine this...
Two newly hired warehouse workers arrive on their first day – a materials handler and a forklift operator. They’re experienced, keen and rearing to go. More to the point, they are desperately needed – things in the warehouse have been getting kinda backed up. The Supervisor, just as keen to get them working, sits them down in front of the induction video, hands them a form to sign and heads back to the floor.
Now these guys are experienced, they know all this induction stuff inside and out. Instead they do what comes naturally... ignore the video and get to know each other. Maybe they do know it all, but something more significant has happened here.
The company that they have come to work for has communicated, whether it’s true or not, that it doesn’t take safety that seriously. Not only was there no guarantee that they understood the material in their induction training, but the supervisor also demonstrated a casual attitude to safety, even if unintentionally. The new employees are likely to take this attitude into the workplace with them.
This happens all the time
Now imagine this...
Upon appointment of their new positions, each warehouse worker receives an email link to their online induction training. They are asked to complete it before they arrive at work the following Monday.
It involves an interactive course that requires them to answer questions on the material as they take it. If they get a question wrong, they are taken back to the relevant page and then asked a different question on the same material. They are required to view and understand the course content before they can pass the induction.
At the end of the induction training course, they receive either a pass or a fail mark, along with a printable certificate. All the information is recorded automatically in the system and available to the company’s HR department.
They arrive at the warehouse with a proven understanding of all they need to know. But more importantly, they understand that safety is valued – and enforced – by their new employer. They are now more likely to bring this attitude to safety into the workplace.
Online Induction Training
Online training systems like this are available on the market today – and are steadily becoming the standard across all industries.
When you’re ready to improve your induction training program, the best place to start is often your professional peers who may be familiar with a proven system. You can also try a simple Google search. Try searching for "induction programme" or "induction training" and see what you find. The paid links are often the best choice when looking for business training solutions.
Businesses must improve their Employee inductions training to the new employees in order to create a productive workforce. Induction training can also take different forms, from vocational training, to learning skills at your place of business.
