Midwest Airlines is a smaller company that is considered a regional carrier. Mexico and Costa Rica are among the other destinations they are known to service even as a regional carrier. The home base of Midwest can be found in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Midwest recently announced an exciting merger happening with Frontier airlines that we are quite jazzed about. This is fantastic news for both companies who began the merger in early 2010 and expect to complete it in mid to late 2011. So do look for exciting developments in the months ahead. Look for some super exciting news to come of this merger.
Because Midwest and Frontier airlines are merging, there is some concern and confusion about some of the programs the companies offer. If, for example, you have a Midwest Miles account, all of the miles that you have in your account will be transferred to a Frontier account. The new account is called Frontier EarlyReturns, and previous account numbers under the Midwest Miles will be the same number with the EarlyReturns account. Midwest Airlines has assured the public that no miles will be lost during the process of merging. If you have questions you can call one of the dedicated customer service lines that Midwest/Frontier has set up.
You have probably noticed that many small regional airlines won't have a section designated as first class only? There are several reasons for this. The program is uniquely names STRETCH which applies only to the first four rows of seats. What that means overall in terms of seating ?pitch? is a grand total of three feet ? 36 inches, and personally we believe that should be enough for anyone.
Midwest does not offer first class seating and they made that choice for a reason. They strive to maintain more affordable tickets prices, and in so doing they only offer one service seating class to all passengers. This is actually not so unusual with the smaller air carriers. You probably know this but most airlines work within a very slight profit margin because their cost of operating is so high. All airlines, no matter what their size may be, are looking for ways to reduce cost. Of course when they do that the savings are often passed on to the traveler. The airline industry is very competitive so this is a very common practice. There is an option, though, to buy a ticket with the STRETCH seating option that gives you five more inches of legroom. Almost every airline has dealt with hard times because of the current economic climate. Some of the major airlines have experienced even harder times than this but Midwest gets to have a healthy and happy outlook on the future because the Frontier merger is helping them stay afloat. The merger will help them offer service to more destinations and increase their capital holdings too. The combination of Code sharing and merging is what will help Midwest/Frontier get even more profitable service offerings. As the merger continues to roll forward, a lot of exciting things will continue to happen.
