Is Melaleuca a good business opportunity? As an active network marketer I am often approached by distributors for this company. I have a friend who recently got involved and thought I should check it out.I am not however involved with the company but would like to give you my unbiased review of the Melaleuca business opportunity.

There are a number of areas that need to be looked at in order to give a fair evaluation of the company. First, Melaleuca was founded in 1985. It can be beneficial to start with a well-established company, since they tend to be more stable. In fact, they have appeared on Inc 500’s list of fastest growing privately held companies in the United States for five consecutive years.

Melaleuca offers quality products that have solid scientific backing. The product line is varied, giving customers an opportunity to purchase all natural, safe products for their home. As a Melaleuca preferred customer you get a 30-40% discount off of the product price, making many of the products cheaper than grocery and drugstore brands.

Although I've only experienced the website as a Guest, I found it fairly user friendly and easy to find my way around. Prices are marked clearly and they have a section to do some comparison shopping with other store brands.

In my opinion, the compensation plan is mediocre. Although Melaleuca says they are a "Direct to Consumer" company, they do follow an MLM model. They are an MLM model and in MLM you have to be realistic in your expectation of needing a big downline to make a lot of money. Because it only pays to seven levels of depth you’ll need to continue to personally sponsor many front line reps in order to create a good income. (I personally believe you can make more money in a plan that pays unlimited depth. I currently get paid hundreds of levels deep and would have a hard time giving that up).

Melaleuca has moved their presentation to an online format, but you have to purchase additional presentation software to use it. Everyone who wants to be a distributor needs to learn the presentation; very detrimental if you're trying to set up automated business systems. (automation makes your work day a lot shorter).

I personally think Melaleuca has great products and is an opportunity for people to save money on products they are already going to buy. Yes you can make money with Melaleuca, but it's ultimately up to you to decide if it's the right fit for what you want. The most important thing when getting involved with any company is that you learn the essential skills that will enable you be massively profitable, remove resistance and rejection an allow you to sponsor new people without dealing with ridiculous objections.
