A butterfly valve is a kind of valve that is primarily used to isolate or regulate the flow. In this type of valve, a disk like mechanism is used to do the closing. Though the operation conducted by butterfly valve is quite similar to ball valve, but it is generally a more preferred option due to its low cost and it is lighter in weight. The metal disc, which is held by the rod is called the butterfly and the disc is turned when the valve closes thereby completely blocking the passageway.
Lists different types of butterfly valves
There are undoubtedly different types of butterfly valves where each of the types are meant to cater to different pressures and serve distinctive purposes. Concentric Butterfly valves are a kind of valves that feature a strong and a robust rubber seat with a metallic disc. Double Eccentric Butterfly valves are also known as high performance butterfly valves and in preparing this type of valves different kinds of materials are used for both the disc and the seat. The third type of valve is called Triple Eccentric Butterfly Valves that are also known as Triple Offset Butterfly Valves and in this kind of valve the seats consists of metal or are laminated. The butterfly valves feature different kinds of mounting methods such as wafer-style butterfly valves and lug-style butterfly valve. In the first instance, the butterfly is designed in a manner that it maintains a seal against the bi-directional pressure to avoid backflow. In the second instance the valves contain threaded inserts at both the sides of the valve body.
Materials and features of Butterfly Valve
The kind of materials used in creating butterfly valves are extremely important because that would determine the kind of performance it would deliver. Therefore butterfly valve manufacturers in India such as GM Engineering take special care to ensure the right kinds of materials are used to create these valves. GM Engineering uses C.I. WCB, CF8 and CF8M ETC materials to develop the body of the butterfly valve. The body liner is made from Nitrile, EPDM, VITON and PTFE and the disc contains 13% cr., ss 304, ss 316.
Application of Butterfly Valve
Butterfly valve is used quite extensively in various different fields. Butterfly valves are extensively used in most gas, air, steam and liquid applications. Butterfly valve distributors realize the advantages of using this type of valve as it is not only economically priced but is also lightweight, bi-directional and bubble-tight.
GM Engineering is leading industrial valves manufacturers and exporters in India. They manufacturing glob valves, forged steel globe valve and exports across the globe.
