Today you will find long security lines in just about every airport in the world. Getting through those long lines as quick as possible will require you to think ahead. Frequent flyers have a few tricks that can make it easier for you and all those around you.
Make sure your pockets are empty of loose change. Cell phones, bracelets, heavy watches, belt buckles can cause the alarm to be set off. You need to place all of those in the bins or better yet place them in your carry-on bag while you are in line. You will get through the line quicker.
You need to have your carry on items such as your books and snacks all together so that once you have been screened you will be able to gather them up quicker.
Many airports around the world require you to remove your shoes. Slip on type shoes are quicker to take off and put back on faster. Shoes with laces will slow you (and those behind you) down.
You need to make sure that you take your one quart bag with all of your liquids out of your carry-on. You did remember to fill smaller travel bottles that are three ounces or less with your shampoos and such, didn't you? If you items that you need for medical reasons they can be outside the bag but you need to notify the screeners that you have them. If you have a laptop with you it needs to be taken out of the carrying case.
Have a process of how you put things into the bins on the screening belt. The more organized you are the quicker you will be able get out of the way once you are through the line.
Here is the process that I use:
First Bin - Shoes and Coat
Second Bin - Pocket Items
Third Bin - Laptop and Case
Fourth Bin or Separate - Carry-On
By following this order you can quickly empty each bin and get the next without holding anyone else up.
Don't stand at the belt trying to put your shoes on. If it is going to take time for you to do this then gather your stuff and keep moving forward. You will find chairs nearby that you can sit down and finish putting yourself together.
