A detox diet is a healthy way of cleansing and renewing your body without depriving you of food and important nutrients. When you are about to start a weight loss diet or want to recover from a particularly indulgent week, detoxifying your body of the toxins becomes important. While there are different types of detoxifying diet but the most common is the fruit diet. Eating nothing else but fruits and vegetables for three days or so allows your body systems to rest and recuperate. It is important however to remember that fruits and vegetables lack fats and proteins and as such should not be sustained for a long time. As a rule of thumb, consult your doctor before attempting any fruit diet.
A detox diet will lessen fluid retention and digestive problems. This diet can also significantly reduce stress, promote regular sleep patterns and gives you clearer skin. Naturally occurring vitamins, enzymes as well as antioxidants are abundant in fruits and vegetables. They provide you with anti-carcinogenic and anti-aging substances that can make you efficiently eliminate the toxins that you have taken in with food.
A simple fruit detox is composed of a detoxifying fruit such as grapefruit, lemon and other fruits and vegetables in season. There can be variations as to what kind of fruits and vegetables will be used depending on the specific nutrients the body needs and what kinds are appealing to the one having the diet. A fruit or vegetable diet should never be introduced to your body suddenly especially when you are not used to it. Moreover a fruit detoxifying diet should be accompanied by a meal plan that has no less than 1200 calories. Any fewer and your body will result to an unhealthy muscle and weight loss. If you are not a particularly heavy fruit and vegetable eater, then you can simple undergo a cleanse where you don't have to eat fruits and vegetables but simply eliminate the unhealthy foods like fatty meats, soda, junk food and alcohol from your diet. You can also try blending together fruit and green smoothies or mixing vegetables, nuts and cheese to make a delicious and refreshing salad. You can expect to make frequent trips to the bathroom when you undergo a fruit diet. However, you can also expect to feel lighter.
Days before undergoing a detox diet, prepare yourself physically and mentally. Get as much rest and relaxation as you can so you can focus yourself on the diet. Gentle exercises like Yoga have cleansing poses that will also help you prep your body for the detox. Moreover, you should not go on a fruit detoxifying diet for more than a couple of days and without your doctor's consent. Inasmuch as this kind of cleansing will definitely be lesser in calories compared to other diets, you should never undergo a fruit diet without consulting your doctor first. This is particularly important if you are overweight or obese or are suffering from any preexisting medical condition. Calorie restriction might worsen these problems.
