Golf is a precision sport that requires a standardized playing area as well as appropriate gear. The origin of golf dates back to the first century BC. Modern day golf, that is played everywhere, has its roots in Scotland. Apart from golfing gear and a playing field, golfers also require golf apparel.
Evolution of Golf Apparel
The game originated in Scotland and it is no surprise that the first golf apparel used were kilts and animal skins. As the game gained popularity and spread to other countries, the apparel started evolving and became more in tune with the times. There was a time when golf was played wearing formal jackets. It was considered to be a gentleman's game and as such gentlemanly wear was used.
Towards the end of the 1950s, jackets slowly went out of vogue and in came v-necked sweaters and bow ties. The v-necked sweaters are still used in the sport but the bow tie has bowed out. There was also an era around the 1970s when polo shirts and shorts were used by golfers.
Today, leading companies are coming out with branded golf apparel for men and women. This includes golf shirts and t-shirts, golf hats, shoes, gloves, trousers and shorts. Colourful polo t-shirts and earthy trousers are the most popular among golfers. This is usually combined with a sassy golf hat.
With regard to shoes, most golfers today like to wear shoes which have metal or plastic spikes at the bottom which gives them a better grip on the course. Today, golf apparel can be bought online as well as in any reputed sporting goods store. With choices aplenty, the customer can visit many sites or stores to find golf apparel and golf hats that best suits them. More than fashion or comfort, mobility is very important when buying golf apparel.
Once the golf apparel is selected, it is essential to make a calculated and informed selection of the required golf equipment. Equipment includes golf bags, golf clubs, gold tees and golf balls. There are certain rules with regard to equipment that can be carried by golfers. For example, a maximum of 14 clubs can be carried at one time in the golf bag.
There are different kinds of golf clubs and they are used for different purposes. For example the 'driver' is a club that has the largest head and the longest handle. Other types of clubs are woods, irons and hybrids. Tees are generally made of metal and are used for the first stroke at a hole. Most golfers carry a few tees in their bag. Golf bags are generally made from leather or similar material and have several pockets in them. These are used to carry the clubs and other gear.
Unlike other sports, golf is a sport of precision and style. Both golf gear and apparel are as important as the player. Without good and comfortable golf apparel and state-of the-art gear, the game may not go the way a player wants.
