Ball valves are a kind of instruments that is primarily a valve with a spherical shaped disc. The sphere contains a hole through which the port is in complete alignment with both the ends of the valve. Ball valves are considered to be extremely durable and they are used to achieve complete shutoff and are hence a great choice for all kinds of shutoff applications.
List the different Types of Ball Valves
Typically, there are five different body styles which includes single body, split body, three piece body, top entry and welded body. The difference between the ball valves is based upon the casing, which includes the ball and is manufactured and assembled. Besides, the different body styles, there also exist different styles that are connected to the bore of the ball mechanism and they include:
-
A full port is also known as full bore ball valve features an over-sized ball, which makes the hole the same size as the pipeline. This helps in ensuring that there is minimal loss of lower friction.
-
The second one is reduced port, where the hole in the valve is one size smaller than the valve’s pipe size therefore that the flow is smaller than the pipe.
-
V port valve features a ball that is found in v-shape and therefore this particular design does offer more room for a controlled opening and closing.
-
Trunnion ball valve features mechanical anchoring at both the top and bottom of the ball that is completely perfect for large and high pressure valves.
Ball valves applications and uses
A ball valve is one of the less expensive valve configurations and features low maintenance costs. Ball valves are undoubtedly quite compact and hardly require lubricants thereby providing low torque. A valve is mostly used to manage the flow of fluids that includes liquids, solids, gases or even slurries and these kinds of valves are idea for shutoff applications.
