Portable x-ray digital systems are now widely in use in all manner of different clinical specialties. Not only do hospitals have portable x-ray imaging medical devices, but they also are in frequent use with medical facilities that offer clinical specialties in radiology, orthopedics, chiropractics, veterinary medicine, urgent care, podiatry and others.
There are many instances when patients cannot come to your medical facility for treatment, and in these cases you will need to go to them to provide patient care. By having a portable x-ray system in place, you will be ready for any contingency that will require you to diagnose patients away from your home office.
Portable x-ray imaging medical devices are used away from your primary care facility, but they need to be compatible with your existing digital radiology equipment already in place there. You will find DR and CR portable x-ray systems that translate the digital images they take into DICOM medical imaging format, which is similar to the jpeg format used on personal computers.
This common computer format makes it possible for your PACS system at home or with you on a laptop computer to be able to transmit the digital images back to your office for further consultations or for archiving. It also enables your ability to view the digital images you take in the field on your clinical workstations at your home office as well.
There are a number of venues where the use of portable x-ray imaging medical devices may be the only way your patients could receive such medical care. For those physicians who are on call for sports teams, you may need to take digital x-rays out on a football field or basketball court, for example, and need a mobile unit that can go anywhere you need to be.
Physicians working on cruise ships also may need common diagnostic tools such as digital x-rays when they are out at sea, and a mobile system can give them the medical data they need for better patient care. Veterinarians commonly have entirely mobile practices, and carry portable imaging systems in a truck or van for use in the field. Patients in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and prisons all may need digital x-rays taken at one time or another, and you can provide this valuable service when you have the proper mobile digital imaging components in place for the task.
