There is no doubt that time has moved ahead and so has meter technology. But even then, there are few things which are handy, valuable and still in use. This example is best seen through technicians who often prefer analog panel meters over the digital panel meters and utilize them in particular situations.
An analog meter looks much like the speedometer of a car. It is really simple in use and considered superior for its long life and durability. In addition to that, for some professionals, the mechanical movement of an analog meter is more reliable than the digital demonstration. The analog meter also shows resistance against the intervention in radio frequency interference.
The functioning of an analog meter has been made very simple. The circuit that has been used in the meter is an uncomplicated arrangement of a single battery and resistors. As there is no automatic scaling facility in it so the scale is placed by rotating a selector switch to the suitable range for the reading to obtained. Moreover, the meter movement is backed by a screw adjustment that is provided just to keep the needle at zero.
Among those who use them, it is common knowledge that for voltage and current, an analog meter mostly gives reading in positive values. If the testing indicates other than positive values, the needle will fall towards the left side margin and will be unable to show the accurate readings.
An analog meter is basically employed to determine, check and examine electrical gadgets such as wall outlets, circuits and other components. Moving needles have been used to show the display readings. There is a common usage of analog meters because they can operate as voltmeters for measuring the voltage, ammeter for current measurement, and for assessing the resistance, they can function as ohmmeters. Apart from that, their utility is proven in testing the circuits in order to check that they are open. Also they are extremely handy in measuring the parameters for capacitors and inductors.
An analog meter has been widely utilized for assessing electricity as well. Basically, the electric meters are involved in two different functions. First they focus on minimizing the power consumption in the peak timings. Moreover they manage the power distribution to diverse consumer divisions. Keeping the track record of the time for which the electricity has been consumed is also a vital function of these meters.
They are divided into two general categories, which are the electromechanical meter and the electronic meter. In addition to the above, there are different types of electric meters such as standard, numeric display, prepayment, electromechanical and variable rate meters.
