The Riviera, the very name conjures up images of sunny beaches, romantic seaside evenings and cool breezy nights. The name though Italian in origin now refers to any warm beach area popular with tourists. Amazingly, Britain has its own and now quite popular English Riviera.
Hard though it is to place warm beaches and Britain together, the areas of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton have managed to establish themselves as the popular English Riviera. Together they provide a united coastal fishing destination, for a relaxing idyllic holiday option. However, separately they have their own individual attractions to entice hordes of tourists!
Torquay for instance is popular with the younger generations as it provides an extremely happening night life. While it offers the most amazing beaches Torquay was also home to Dame Agatha Christie, making it all the more interesting. Brixham on the other hand is a popular fishing village and while still active also has a history to which visitors are given a glimpse into. Paignton too has beaches that are extremely popular with water sports enthusiasts. It also once upon a time home to what is believed to be the oldest cinema built for that purpose known as the Torbay Picture House. Though now closed it is known to have been used as a location in movies and believed to have been used in quite a few of Dame Christie’s books!
Paignton is a good destination to visit for families travelling with children as the Paignton Environmental Zoo is an interesting visit. With thousands of types of animals, visitors are treated to a range of different environments from the tropics to desserts. There are many interactive events and programs happening at the zoo which the kids and parents alike are guaranteed to enjoy.
Close to Torquay is Babbacombe, which is another interesting family destination with its well known Model Village. That is not all, it also boasts its own promenade that offers everything a visitor could wish for to make a holiday complete, such as restaurants, shops and hotels to mention a few.
The great thing about all the main destinations in the English Riviera is that accommodation is very easy to find. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham Bed and Breakfasts, apartments, hotels and even campsites cater to different requirements and budgets. It is no wonder visitors flock to this area as individuals, groups and families are all guaranteed to find accommodation suited to them with minimum hassle.
Now would be a great time to check out what all the fuss is about and why everyone seems to be holidaying in the English Riviera with its miles of Mediterranean coastline.
If you wish to spend a self catering holiday in Torquay, you have reached the best here. Find a hotel in Brixham to pamper yourself during your precious holiday.
