Living with roommates has the potential to either be a amazing experience or a terrible one, very few people might say they have a mediocre experience. For better or for worse, I think everybody should undergo it at least once though. They recommend that you don't room with your best friend simply because you value the relationship so much. Everything can certainly transform whenever you live with each other.
Depending on many people you live with, that you might want to split tasks up and have all the cards laid on the table. In the event that you don't know anybody who you are living with this can be very crucial. My roommate and I didn't truly track every penny for groceries, we simply went shopping and what ever was in the refrigerator was free game. The one thing that I didn't touch was his yogurt and he didn't touch my milk. Other than that we used each other's things and I never once felt that I was being taken advantage of. This is a rare case since the majority of of the time it's the exact opposite, actually I've heard stories in which the roommates would label every little thing in the refrigerator. So as far as splitting up the groceries here are a couple standard strategies.
-
Every Man/Woman On Their Own - This tactic can be utilized for any range of roommates, whether you're strangers or not. It's particularly good for those who eat completely different foods.
-
The Soup Kitchen - That's where the groceries are a free for all and anyone could eat anything. But all grocery receipts from everyone will go into a box and you simply pay the difference of who paid for what at the end of the calendar month. Not recommended for anybody whose roommates are twice their weight.
-
The Care-Free Method - Exactly the same technique my roommate and I had, it's one big happy family and you don't pay any attention at all to who bought what. This plan of action works well because if you share your food with at care free way of thinking, it's likely that you share everything else like dvds, novels, or booze. So by the end of the year things usually even out adequately.
Thus each way can function fine, I'm certain there are alternative methods to go about dividing up the groceries, but I believe that these are the most common. Don't forget, the true secret for a successful year with all your roommates is open communication so everyone understands who is responsible for what.
