Here is a quick partial checklist to help you to rapidly get a sense of change and anticipation of the upcoming Spring weather. This will help you to get organized and help you to balance your life just that little bit more.
Medications:
Do you realize that the drugs in your medicine cabinet have expiration dates? A study from 2008 revealed traces of painkillers and other drugs in the drinking water of 15 southern Ontario cities.
• Check all medications expiration dates. The drugs in your medicine cabinet have expiration dates. Check all packs and also bottle of pills your Doctor gave you. Most over-the-counter medications have long expiry dates, between three and five years – but nevertheless check each one.
• Put themselves them all together in a bag and go to your nearest pharmacist for proper disposal. Just tell them, "Here are some expired medicines for disposal" and they will take them from you and properly dispose of them. DO NOT put them in the garbage – they will end up in landfills seeping into the ground water, streams and the water you and I drink!
Kitchen:
Check you spices – how old are they? If you cannot remember when you bought them then it is a pretty safe bet they are old and should be thrown into the compost container. Old spices lose flavour you can put an entire handful of old herbs into your cooking with no change of flavour change. The tip about buying spices, is buy little and often! No bulk buying of herbs - unless you run a restaurant!
• Go through each bag or bottle of dried spices and smell each one – do they have any smell left that resembles their original odour? Do they smell musty? Then chuck them!
• Go through your fridge – take everything out and clean each shelf and put in a fresh box of Baking Soda to help absorb any future smells. Then put only the fresh foods back, the rest can go into the compost container.
Bathroom:
Old mascara and other makeups and ointments have a set shelf life too. When it comes to makeup – an easy tip for when to throw them out is that if you cannot recall when you bought them last they should be thrown away.
• Go through each piece of makeup and throw out any that you know to be old or you cannot remember when you bought it last.
• Clean up any and all scummy corners of your medicine cabinet or cabinet draws, clearing clutter as you go. Afterwards you can throw in some nice smelling natural scented bags to lift your mood too! Put back only those things that contribute to your life and that you feel can help you to balance your life.
