There has been a lot of focus on the differences between athletic socks as compared to the traditional cotton socks that most people use. In order for those who have not heard about athletic socks understand the benefits that they convey, we will go over a few of the major differences between athletic socks and traditional cotton socks.
For athletes that love to run, jog, or perform any kind of sport, the feet are usually the extremities that take the largest beating. The feet propel the body in the direction that the person wants to go and can quickly tire after running or sprinting short distances. Many athletes get fatigued as their feet begin to hurt, which lessens their performance. Athletes who want to improve their performance turn to athletic socks for several reasons.
The first reason is that athletic socks are made with a superior fabric. Cotton socks are comfortable, but they retain moisture. Moisture and feet don't mix well together as friction and moisture can soften the skin and cause some extremely painful blisters. Athletic socks definitely have the edge in this regard as they are made with fabrics such as CoolMax which dries 70% faster than traditional cotton socks. The fast drying action of athletic socks make it much more likely that the athlete using them will have less blisters and less irritation from friction. This fabric that athletic socks contain is also much more comfortable to wear as it is lighter on the skin and helps to keep your feet cool and dry during exercise.
Another reason why athletic socks are better than cotton socks is because of their compression ability. The fabric that athletic socks are made from fit tightly around the foot and ankle. This tight fit helps to compress the feet and ankles in order to increase blood flow and reduce swelling. Compression athletic socks help to keep the blood circulating in your legs and feet and can reduce cramping. This benefit is extremely important to athletes that run professionally as they need their feet and legs to last as long as possible so that they can win the race.
The third reason why athletic socks are better than cotton is because of the wide variety of styles and colors that they come in. Athletic socks come in all kinds of colors and patterns in order to meet the preferences of any athlete. While cotton socks come in great variety as well, athletic socks are made with the fabric that is preferred by the athletes that use them, thus making exercise and running much more enjoyable. By being able to get athletic socks in the colors and styles of your choosing, you will be better able to match the footwear and exercise attire that you have.
As you can see, athletic socks definitely have many more advantages than cotton socks when it comes to exercise and athletic activities. For athletes who are serious about maximizing their performance and about getting the most out of their feet, athletic socks are the socks of choice as they provide several benefits that cotton socks just can't provide.
