Banner ads should always be one of your marketing strategies, but creating an online banner ad can be a confusing process. What exactly should you incorporate to draw in customers? How can you optimize click through ratios? The answer is simple. Marketing strategies can be achieved with a great banner design.
One of the greatest assets to creating a larger click through ratio is animation, however, there are a few key points to using animation in a banner. The point of using animation is to attract the consumer's attention, not annoy them to the point of turning them off to your product or business. For a looping animation, it should only loop a maximum of five times before settling on the final message frame. This draws the attention of your consumers without becoming a constant irritant. Also with looping animation, be sure to have your intended message in both the first and final frame. On occasion, viewers will prevent a page that takes a while to load from loading fully, therefore preventing your ad from loading fully. By keeping your intended message in the first frame, you can ensure that consumers will know what is being advertised.
Utilize bright colors, a "call to action", and keep your message short. It is proven that bright colors like blue, green, and yellow draws the attention of the consumer much better than by using black and white. However, when it comes to the color red, it should be used sparingly and with caution. Include a short message, for example, "Would you like help filing your taxes?" followed by a "call to action" such as "Click here!".
Be sure to link your banner to a specific page. Nothing is more aggravating to a consumer than being linked to just the home page of a particular company, then have to hunt through that site for the information or product advertised. Last but not least, refresh your banner design on a fairly regular basis. Sometimes, certain designs will not appeal to the targeted consumers and a fresh new look may be exactly what is needed. Many studies have shown that the click through ratio decreases after approximately two weeks. By refreshing your banner design, you can maintain a higher click through ratio.
