There is a certain amount of stress involved in purchasing a new appliance and an electric range is no exception. There is a great deal of variety available, both in looks and in function. Finding the right combination may seem intimidating at first, but being prepared with some good information will help make buying a new electric range a more enjoyable process.
People should start by analyzing both what they want, and what they need in an electric range. There is a great deal of information out there and it can help to narrow it down to the few that fit the bill. There are always plenty of newspaper advertisements touting the various advantages of owning this electric range or that refrigerator. One can learn a lot just about an electric range just from reading the information held within the ads themselves. There is usually a list of specifications such as the height and width of the unit, whether it is a gas or electric range, whether it is conventional or a convection model. Reading the description will also tell whether the cooktop is a smooth ceramic top with hidden halogen elements, or whether it has the traditional resistance coil burners.
Consumers will want to find out whether a particular electric range meets federal Energy Star standards. Modern appliances in general are much more environmentally friendly than in years past. People should also check to make sure any given electric range will operate on their existing household electrical current, as it is possible to find an electric range in both 220V and 110V models. It is important to note that it is necessary to plug an electric range into a dedicated circuit in order to prevent electrical problems and to keep the home safe.
People should begin by deciding which style of electric range they need. This will make the hunt go much more quickly as it makes it possible to search only within that parameter. There are three main types of electric range to choose from: a drop-in range, a slide-in style and the freestanding models. Consideration should be given to the size and location of the area where the electric range will be used.
A drop-in electric range is so called because it usually fits into a space within the kitchen cabinetry and will generally have some type of woodwork trimming it out to give it a built-in appearance. A slide-in style electric range fits inbetween two lower cabinets and is self contained. All it needs is to be plugged in to an appropriate outlet. It does not have a built-in back-splash, but the controls are toward the back on the cook-top.
Another electric range worth considering is the freestanding style. This type is usually just a bit larger, but has a good deal of oven capacity and a spacious stove top. It stands on its own anywhere in the kitchen. It is finished on three sides to look nice from any angle. After looking at all these options and narrowing down what is needed, buying an electric range will be a much easier process.
