When it comes to going on vacation in New Zealand, more often than not, it is holiday homes in coastal areas that attract the most attention.
Even if you don’t like swimming in the ocean or even walking in the shallows of it, the sheer presence of the open waters is enough to entice people into either buying a coastal investment property in New Zealand or simply renting one out for a short term period.
Those who do crave life by the sea, tend to opt for the warmest temperatures possible. New Zealand’s coastal locations like Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Northland are typically warmer than most other parts of the country throughout the year.
Recently I purchased a holiday home in the Coromandel township of Tairua. This is a simply beautiful part of the Coromandel region that looks out towards Slipper Island. This is one of New Zealand’s few privately owned islands that feature a small luxury resort and its own aircraft runway strip. Much like Tairua, it is surrounded by crystal clear water and glistening white sand.
I work from Auckland most of the year, but I make a concerted effort to spend a few days holidaying in Tairua, which is approximately a 2 hour’s drive from New Zealand’s "big smoke".
I researched the option to buy an investment property in New Zealand and decided that it would be ideal to have a holiday home in the Coromandel that I can rent out to both New Zealand and international travellers when I’m residing in Auckland. It’s close enough to be able to manage and because of the growing popularity of the Coromandel, my holiday home is extremely unlikely to lose value.
Paying for the mortgage on my holiday home in Tairua is easy. Holidaymakers are generally willing to spend over $100 per night to stay there. Tairua is very close to several surf beaches and dive areas. It is also close to top tourist spots like Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Hahei and Sailors Grave.
The proximity of Tairua, coupled with the beautiful views, amazing, unspoilt coastline, 15 cafes, friendly people and relaxed, non-commercialised environment, made my decision to buy an investment property in New Zealand a very easy one.
If anyone is thinking about investing in a holiday home, I’d certainly consider Tairua, or anywhere in the Coromandel that offers the basic amenities. There’s possibly no better area to invest.
The beautiful Coromandel has a range of lifestyle, investment property & coastal real estate including land and houses for sale.
