Its very important in this day and age to be energy efficient, just take a minute and listen to all of the noise in your office from computers, and the illumination from standby devices sat around the work place. Offices are possibly an inefficient place but could so easily become a place that is more environmentally friendly - with just a few simple steps!

1.Use the energy settings within your computer setup - Personal computers usually have options within them which will put the computer / monitor into sleep modes for a given time. Utilising the energy saving modes of your technology will ensure that you save electricity.

2.Shutdown things when you leave the office, to save even more power (and of cause money!). You wouldn't believe how much can be saved by following this simple step, most people leave the monitor wen the LED turns another colour which symbolises power down mode.

3.Unplug your devices - when you're heading away, be sure to unplug the relevant plugs, this will protect your kit against any power surges and similar problems and will save you the maximum amount of power making you energy efficient.

4.Go paper free - look to not print out e-mails, remember you have an inbox that contains all of your historic emails. Consider implementing a policy of "think before you press print", recycle your old paper or use it as scrap paper in the office?

5.Upgrade that old CRT monitor with new technology - look to replace the old style monitors with LED - LCD technology which produces less heat and is so so much smaller it's unreal, they also provide a high resolution and can be high definition, - if you look around for them.

6.Look for energy star equipment - energy star equipment is rated officially and where possible I would keep my eye out for the seal of approval. Energy star was build to help reduce the green house gas and pollution which was created by bad manufacturing processes and its lifetime use age.

7.Use the right lighting - look to replace any older bulbs with the newer style of light bulbs, compact florescent lighting uses about a 10% of traditional bulbs and is therefore cost effective, lasts a lot longer and is very energy efficient.

There are so many different ways you could improve the efficiency of your business with small changes that make a big difference.
