Today's article will give you a brief overview of the development of printable grocery coupons.
The idea of grocery coupons has been in existence for as long as newspaper and other print media. Coupons became very popular during the depression, because all Americans were looking for a way to save money.
After World War II, we saw the development of the Supermarket concept. As the chain grocery store idea expanded, so did the nation-wide marketing and use of grocery coupons. Coupons started a whole new industry and lead to the development of clearing houses to manage their redemption. I've seen articles stating that by the mid 1960's over half of all American households were shopping with grocery coupons!
Shoppers fell in love with the idea of saving money by clipping coupons from the Sunday newspaper or weekly insert. Many books and articles were written on ways to save money using grocery coupons. I can still picture coupon-clipping being a part of my mom's weekly routine many years ago.
However, the concept of clipping coupons to save money at the grocery store did have a few drawbacks to it. These are some of the more common ones:
Clipping coupons was a lot of work.
Newspapers and circulars were dirty.
You had to arrange your shopping schedule for after you had coupons ready.
It influenced which grocery store you shopped at.
It dictated which brands of products you purchased.
The potential to save money could cause you to buy things you might not normally need.
As the Internet developed, so did coupon clipping. Now the smart way to save is by using free printable grocery coupons.
Today you can jump on the Internet to print grocery coupons whenever you want them. You can save a lot of time and money on all kinds of products. And you can continue to purchase your preferred brands from your favorite grocery store. I advise everyone to get in the habit of saving with printable grocery coupons.
