The waiting room and reception area of a business is where a client forms an initial impression of the company - it's the first thing they see and experience before meeting anyone involved. However because this area does not have a direct involvement in the objectives of a company, it is also an area that tends to get overlooked when considering office space decor. For that reason, it is important to take a step back and consider what your own waiting room and reception area says about your business.
A growing number of solutions in office decor have made it possible for business owners to explore a rich variety of furnishings and designs before committing to a particular style. Both formal and informal styles are popular and can say a great deal about the company as a whole. In many cases, the reception area is the only room a client will see, making it vital that this area receives careful attention to detail.
Ideally, the reception area of a business should have an inviting atmosphere regardless of its style. Current and prospective clients will feel more naturally relaxed in an area where they feel welcome. The last thing that you want is to make your clients feel alienated or even repelled by the environment created, but that's exactly what could happen if you fail to put emphasis on the waiting area.
Making improvements to the design of the reception area doesn't necessarily mean spending a lot of money. Small changes within an area can have a dramatic impact on the overall atmosphere of the room. Even a simple transition from tile floors to carpet can make a big difference. If the reception area doubles as a waiting area, a quick update to the colour scheme of the furniture can change the entire feel of the room. Soft, pastel colours are known to be comforting, whereas it's recommended to stray from bold or bright colours that may have an adverse effect.
Although style is important when considering the decor of waiting area, it is also crucial to consider the clients who will be spending time in that area. Is the seating comfortable? Is there an area dedicated to small children? What about entertainment? All of these are vital questions to ask yourself before transforming the look and design of the reception. As a general rule, the more time that clients spend in the waiting area, the more important that it is to ensure their comfort.
Today, reception area decor can be used to reflect the company as a whole or to embrace personal style. Contemporary reception desks and waiting room chairs can successfully add modern appeal to any office reception area while traditional designs may be better for others. Whatever design is chosen, the most important aspect of it all is that it complements, rather than distracts, from the company as a whole.
