These cords can be made to individual needs and designs. They are typically cut in ten or twenty foot lengths. The metal conductor is wrapped around a spiral form to create a spring look. A layer of insulation is formed around the conductor and then topped off with a protective coating. The spring allows the cord to stretch to full length and then coil back up for storing it. This also assists in keeping the area free of hanging cords.
