People dealing with unsightly disfigurements on their arms and elbows usually wear long-sleeved shirts and blouses to hide the imperfections. In the winter, this is fine, but in the summer, it can be very uncomfortable. For many people, it is embarrassing to expose themselves to stares and well-meaning people who ask about the scars. They often become tired of explaining what happened to them. For those that can afford it, they resort to consulting surgeons to rid themselves of the sometimes-hideous defects. Even with surgery, the scars may not go away entirely.
There can be many reasons for arm and elbow scarring; car accidents, surgery to correct problems in their elbows and keloid scarring. Scarring can be anywhere from minor to major in appearance. Depending on the plastic surgeon, scars can barely be visible, but to the person carrying those disfigurements, it can be quite disturbing. In addition, depending on what the plastic surgeon has to work with will determine what the finished and healed area looks like. Plastic surgeons are trained better than other surgeons in the field of reconstruction. Patients often get referrals from friends in hope of finding the best choice. For some, surgery is the only option to correct problems in their elbows.
Tennis elbow is any repetitive motion that involves the use of the elbow. Extreme cases cause a scar-like tissue under the tendon with wear and tear of the elbow joint. Inflammation occurring just above the elbow joint on the outer areas of the forearm and elbows can cause severe pain. The pain is from injured or damaged tendons . With extreme cases, surgery is required, leaving unsightly scars.
Severe cases of cubital tunnel syndrome involve the ulnar nerve. Ulnar nerve translocation surgery can leave a six-inch or more incision on the inside of the elbow, leaving a large scar. Scar treatment is a common after-effect of arm surgeries.
There are many scar removal creams on the market. Some restore collagen levels while increasing elasticity in the affected area. Others remove dry, dead skin and have a self-heating activator to soften the skin, which helps to diminish the blemishes. Another uses sheets made up of silicone that, when applied to the affected area, will usually produce results in four to eight weeks. This product works well with keloid scarring. A scar removal cream is used in conjunction with the silicone sheets for more progressive results. The sooner these treatments are used, the better the effects will be.
