Do you have bad credit? If yes, do you feel its effect on your life? Perhaps you may have tried to get a credit card but found out that you are not qualified because of your poor score. Or perhaps a lending company turned down your loan application because of bad credit. Indeed, a person’s credit history and credit score can make a big difference in the kinds of opportunities he/she gets.
In this article, let us enumerate the possible drawbacks of bad credit. Being aware of the disadvantages should inspire you to work on improving your personal credit.
Applying for a credit card. The lowest rate credit cards are offered exclusively to customers with good or above average credit rating. If you have bad credit or a poor score, you may not qualify for these credit cards. What about secured credit cards? While these bad credit credit cards are available for everyone, they do require the submission of cash deposit. Furthermore, secured credit cards are bound to have higher interest rate than regular credit cards.
Applying for a loan. Whatever type of loan you need (personal loan, car loan, or mortgage loan), it will be easier for you to find better deals if you have good credit. For this reason, consumers are advised to check their credit reports at least 6 months before applying for a loan. This way, they can have the chance to improve their credit scores if needed. What about bad credit loans? Bad credit personal loans, bad credit car loans, and bad credit mortgage loans are open to everyone but the rates are also expected to be higher and the repayment terms, more steep.
Seeking employment. Are you aware that bad credit can also affect your employment opportunities? Many employers do check credit reports to evaluate a job applicant’s background. If your credit report reveals delinquent accounts or bad credit, do you think an employer would be confident to hire you as an employee? Indeed, your bad credit can be a big factor on your employer’s decision whether to hire you or not.
Acquiring insurance. Regardless of the type of insurance (auto insurance, home insurance) you need, you can get the best rates and insurance terms if you have good or above average credit rating. On the contrary, insurers may consider you as a "high risk" customer if you have a low credit score.
Finding an apartment. Do you need to find an apartment or house to rent? If yes, you may discover that some landlords and rental agencies have strict credit requirements. A landlord or a rental agency may turn you down as a tenant if you have bad credit. A landlord may also accept you as a tenant despite your bad credit but you might be asked to pay a higher deposit or down payment.
Applying for utility services. Even utility service companies use credit reports to evaluate consumer application. If you have bad credit, you could be turned down or you might be required to get a co-signer who can guarantee your credibility as a customer.
