According to latest survey, the number of diabetic patients around the world is increasing by the day. Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels, with defect in production of insulin. Blood glucose levels are controlled by insulin, a hormone that is produced by the pancreas. The basic function of insulin is to lower the level of blood glucose levels in the body. If unattended it can have serious repercussion like kidney failure, cardiac arrest, and nerve damage. There are three types of diabetes- pre diabetes, type 1diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Normally, adults are inflicted with type 2 diabetes characterized by lower production of insulin and high blood sugar levels. With little care and attention it is possible to fight diabetes. Healthy changes in lifestyle along with salubrious diet can help combat diabetes.
Metformin is an effective drug that helps reduce blood sugar levels and expedite the process of diabetes treatment. It works in a unique way. It reduces amount of glucose produced by liver, then it reduces the amount of glucose absorbed through food by stomach and then it improves the effectiveness of insulin in body by reducing glucose levels already present in blood. Other glucose lowering drugs available in market tend to increase the concentration of insulin in blood when taken alone.
On the contrary, Metformin does not increase the concentration of insulin and consequently does not lead to low blood glucose levels. The clinical trials confirm that it also helps in averting the chances of contracting pancreatic cancer in obese people. The anti oxidants in this marvellous drug can help improve recovery after minor ischemic attacks. With age, majority of people face with problems of glucose intolerance. Metformin not only help in diabetes treatment but also proves beneficial in reducing the risk of age related diabetes by preventing sugar cravings, improved body composition with improved insulin use and stabilization of sugar levels. It also helps in improving cholesterol levels and prevents lipoprotein from attaching to the arteries and blood platelets, thus reducing the peril of blood clotting.
For those aged over 40 years and above, one 500 mg to 850 mg capsule, two to three times a day should suffice. If you have pre existing diseases like liver or kidney problem or lactic intolerance, then consult a physician before taking the medicine. Rare side effects like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhoea may be experienced in few cases. Also, Metformin can lead to deficiency of Vitamin B 12. So supplements of vitamin B 12 are recommended. Use of Metformin is prohibited with other anti- hypertensive products. Metformin has helped over two million of diabetic patients. It is your chance to discover the benefits of this wonder drug.
