Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine, has named software provider, IES, Ltd. as a recipient of its ‘Top Projects’ award for its work in Packaging Optimization.
The company’s submission was selected for the award based on scope, creative application of technologies, solutions and services used and impact.
Barry Hochfelder, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine states that the goal of the feature is to "Spotlight successful and innovative transformation projects that are delivering bottom-line value to small, medium and large enterprises across the different functions that comprise the supply chain,"
Tom Zinner, a key architect of the software, describes the scope of the project submitted for recognition, "To summarize, the packaging optimization process allows clients to utilize a small package carrier to move goods to the final destination for the same price as LTL, but more efficiently and without the added paperwork and palletization.
"Through a series of complex algorithms," explains Zinner, "the software determines the most efficient way to load a package based on small carrier delivery rates. Next, it automatically generates pick tickets that illustrate how each of the inner packages should be placed in the over-pack. The result is up to a 40% savings in shipping cost."
Andrew K. Reese, editorial director of Supply & Demand Chain Executive describes how recipients of the award fit into the publication’s market niche, "Our readers count on Supply & Demand Chain Executive for intelligence and decision-making information on solutions and best practices for supply chain transformation." He continues to explain that the feature "demonstrates the broad spectrum of opportunities for enabling excellence in the supply chain."
This year, the publication focused the criteria for the feature on supply chain transformation projects that have had a significant impact on the company's going through the implementations.
Final recipients are featured in the cover story of the June 2011 issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive.
