Brandon Has A Very Long History

Located in Suffolk, England, the town of Brandon shares its name with towns in Lincolnshire, Durham and Warwickshire, but its final name has known a lot of changes and variations. The Guide to Brandon which W.G. Clarke has written in 1908 tells us the town was also known as Brantona, Braundon, Brandones Ferye, and Brand.
Some remains form the Neolithic, Iron Age, Bronze Age and Roman times were discovered in Staunch Meadow, located on the southern bank of the Little Ouse near Brandon Lock. The remains of one of the most important Anglo Saxon settlements in the Britain Isles lay there, having been described by archaeologists as a "wealthy, literate, Middle Saxon settlement of either royal or monastic status". The amazing historical breakthrough has given birth to an impressive amount of information about the area and the Old English history; so much so that research studies and analyses have lasted for more than fifteen years.
This high-interest area has been transformed into the Town Street or "Tip," short for "Tipperary;" Ferry Street was a great commercial site for many entrepreneurs who focused on road and river traffic and offered pilgrim travelers the accommodation they needed. Ferry Street became High Street over time, and it soon started to host all the inns, wealthy merchants' homes, retailers or tradesmen or agriculture-based economists.
The town of Brandon holds an old tradition: the market day that was established every Thursday still continues its tradition, but nowadays Saturday is also an important market day for the town residents or tourists. Even though there is no longer a corn market, there are plenty of private pleasure cruisers or rowing boats to see, plus the wonderful and comfortable inns that are still part of the town.
Returning to its old historical grounds, it would seem that Brandon has started to seemingly expand in the 11th century, when it rose on the ground of the river valley, hosting the Bromehill Fair, whose site is still present today there, laying over the parish boundary to the north of the current railway tracks. Plus, there is proof of broom continuing to thrive in the well-drained soil there.
Even though in the past there were plenty of flint knappers and furries there, these are currently gone, and this is of course due to the apparition or invention of the percussion cap and myxomatosis; therefore, the only toys Brandon's residents can admire are the ones at the monthly antiques toy fair at the local Leisure Centre.
The old Brandon Brewery, the Heritage Centre, the High Lodge, Grimes Graves and the Country Park are some of the main attractions you can find in Brandon. You can learn a lot of intriguing information on the old town of Brandon, its role throughout England's history and you can witness some of the important historical remains there.
The town of Brandon has an amazingly busy life, featuring a photography club, a Ballroom and Latin for Fun and Fitness, The Flintknappers Best Karaoke Around event and a lot of Discos with Top Local DJs. The people there really know how to have fun, and the town is safe, as it features several webcams you can check out to see important parts of the town such as the Town Market or High Street.
