In the Information Age teenagers are taking the world by storm. No longer are computers and mobile phones tools, they have become part of the fabric of a teenagers life. The internet is used for communication, entertainment, information, education, shopping and social networking among other things so it makes sense to use it for earning money too.
Of course I am referring to internet marketing which is a perfectly realistic option for any teen looking for a home business idea. When looking at home business ideas for teens, there are not many that compare with the low start-up cost and potential high return of a home based online marketing business.
The skills learned when internet marketing are skills that would be useful for a teen for the rest of their lives. Internet marketing covers basically anything that involves selling online. Out of all the types of internet marketing, affiliate marketing would probably be the best option for a teen.
Below are 5 good reasons to consider internet marketing as a home business idea for teens.
- Almost No Start-Up Costs
An online marketing business has very low start-up costs, as the only asset you need is a computer and an internet connection, depending on what you want to do website hosting and domain names etc may also come into the costs but these can be avoided.
- Few Special Skills Required
Online Marketing is all about sending people to your web site, this is a relatively simple activity, you will need a basic understanding of whatever language it is you want to market to,and some low-level computer skills, but most of the work is repetition and refinement of basic skills you can learn online.
As teens are usually quite confident on computers and don't have problems with things like using Facebook or uploading videos, computer skills should not be a problem.
Of course to become more successful they will want to master a wide variety of different marketing methods but there are avenues for training and development of skills to do that.
- Time Flexibility
Because the internet is open 24/7 it can be worked on anytime so the work can fit around school ,social or work commitments. It is quite common for teens to be doing multiple things online at once such as doing homework, chatting on Facebook, watching YouTube videos etc.
Both Facebook and YouTube can be used as very powerful marketing tools. Of course because income is closely related to the amount of work put in, the more work put in the greater the financial reward,
- A Lifelong Income
If a teen chooses to market using free marketing methods, often what they post online will stay there for a very long time. For instance if they post something online with a link to their website people could still be clicking that link 10 years from now, in this way internet marketing has a cumulative effect.
Of course an internet marketing business can set a teen up to have a successful life-long business.
- The Opportunity To Make An Incredible Amount Of Money
Of course the main reason a teen may want to start a small internet business is to make money, and it is possible to make a very large amount of money in online marketing.
Make no mistake, internet marketing is not a 'get rich quick' scheme, while the potential is there it requires a lot of motivation and dedication to achieve success
Even if the financial reward is not as impressive as they might
hope the skills learned will serve them the rest of their lives as almost any business they go into will require some kind of marketing.
I have only scratched the surface of what internet marketing involves and its potential advantages but it is well worth looking at as a home business idea for teens.
