If you enjoy romping in the water, sea scooters are a blast. Dive scooters are a propulsion device that make moving through the water effortless. Instead of wearing yourself out kicking through choppy water, you can use diving scooters to pull you along at a moderate pace. There are even models small enough for the kids to enjoy while paddling around the pool on your next vacation.
Speed
There is some debate on how fast is fast enough when it comes to sea scooters. One popular model is rated at about two miles per hour, which does not seem very fast at all. However, if you are using one of these in conjunction with your diving or snorkeling gear, this is plenty of speed. You have to remember when you are diving or snorkeling that there are limits to how fast you can descend or ascend in the water and if you are, being rocketed through the waves you run a real risk of decompression sickness or the bends as it is more commonly called.
What to Look For
If sea scooters or dive scooters sound like something you would be interested in there are plenty to choose from. There are so many that it can be a bit confusing. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best device for your next snorkeling, swimming or diving expedition.
• Check the battery life, some sea scooters are only good for about an hour to an hour and a half. Some will go a bit longer.
• How much does the dive scooter weigh? Sea Scooters vary in size from a few pounds to over 10 pounds.
• Look at the amp rating of the scooter, the more amps the potential power and therefore speed.
Uses
Just about any type of swimming or water fun can be enhanced by sea scooters. Pick up a couple of these devices for your next kids pool party and you will be the coolest parent on the planet! Kids can paddle around, diving with their scooters or race each other around the pool or lake.
Snorkelers and divers can see much more of the deep blue sea when they have dive scooters at their disposal. Since you will not have to propel yourself by kicking your fins, you will have a lot more energy for exploration. You may also find your air will go a bit farther as well!
Down Side
You will have to be careful with some of these units, they are generally constructed of light material so they are easier to carry and use in the water. This of course means they will not hold up to a lot of abuse, tossing them in the back of the truck is probably not the best idea.
Keep in mind that dive scooters are not generally manufactured to pull more than one person, which means if you have several people, playing in the water you will have to take turns! Again, it is a matter of light construction for ease of use.
Conclusion
Sea scooters or diving scooters can make a day of fun in the sun and water that much better. Use them in shallow water or pools as well as in conjunction with dive gear. Some people have complained about the speed, and you should know up front that the majority of these machines are not going to get you through the water like you see in the movies! They are however, a fun little device that can make your swimming, snorkeling or diving trip a blast.
