You know you need to go on a diet. You know you need to eat healthier foods. You know you just have to lose weight. The problem is, you're too busy to shop for and actually cook a meal that will meet the demands for weight loss. Or you can't cook even if your life actually depended on it. Short of having to go to a fastfood chain and order cheeseburger without the cheese, patty and mayonnaise, the solution lies in packaged diet meals. Because eating the right kinds of food at the right amounts is crucial to the success of your weight loss efforts, most dieters fail in this area when they don't have time to shop and cook, can't cook or can't do both. Thus, those who really want to get a head start on their fat loss efforts go to packaged diet meals in their efforts to eat a menu that is low in calories to promote weight loss.
As their name suggests, these are prepared meals that allow you to choose from a wide variety of plans available. Their calorie intake has already been measured and as such, the hassle of limiting portions on your end has been eliminated. Some services offer packaged meal plans that are delivered right to your very own home. Some companies service the whole nation while smaller services or even individuals cater only to those living within a certain geographical area. The added convenience obviously makes this relatively more expensive. If you want to opt for cheaper varieties, you can do the shopping yourself. Some grocery stores have frozen meals from companies who specialize in this kind of service. A variety of pre-made salads and pre-made dinners complete with nutritional information have made it to the supermarket shelves and it's a simple matter to choose the one that suits your taste.
The question is: Do packaged diet meals really work?
On one hand, these meal plans were made for those seeking to lose fat. If you got your pre-made dinners from reputable companies, you are assured of high quality ingredients that are low in fat. Depending on the meal plan you choose, you are also assured of fresh ingredients like beans, fish and vegetables. Because these meals already have the number of calories measured, you can be certain that you are not eating more than what is necessary. Thus, when you follow a meal plan using these foods to the letter, you will definitely accomplish your weight loss goals.
Unfortunately, some of these diet plans have severely restricted the amount of calories present in them that they become a threat to nutrition. They have become pre-packaged fad diets that wreck havoc to overall health and wellbeing. As a result, because they are too low in caloric content, the dieter still feels the hungry and still tends to overeat, mostly on unhealthy options. Aside from this, these prepackaged meals often have very high sodium content that's detrimental to heart health. And most still don't have enough amounts of fiber and protein that keep you satiated. If you really want to choose this option, read the label and choose the meal with 400 to 500 calories, has no more than 400 mg of sodium and has fiber and protein as well.
