Yachting in Athens, the capital of Greece, one of the most glorious cities in the world, cradle of the western civilization. Very few cities in the world are as packed with history as Athens. The legacy of the classical era is still evident in Athens, represented by a number of ancient monuments, the most legendary of all being the Parthenon, widely considered a key landmark of early Western civilization. It is chosen by thousands of people every year and Athens will surprise you in every way, and most certainly will not leave you indifferent. Yachting in Athens, a mixture of east and west, old and new, enjoy trendy restaurants, stylish bars, galleries, clubs, concert halls, culture, bouzouki (traditional Greek music), souvlaki, frappe (chilled coffee) and great shopping! If you have the time, take a day or two to wonder around the one and only Akropolis, the Ancient Agora, and the charming streets of Plaka and Monastiraki. Athens, a city filled with history, flaunts its millennium-old port, Piraeus; the base of the Yacht Club of Greece, which sponsors a number of yachting events. One of the biggest and oldest ports in Greece, Piraeus enjoys a priviledged position on the Greek map, one that has been observed by many yacht charter enthusiasts who use it as a base for exploring the Greek shores. So, for yachting in Greece, make sure you stop by this cosmopolite town and harbor.
Most of yachting holidays to the Greek islands start from the marinas in Athens, such as Kalamaki, Marina Zea or Lavrion. Alimos Marina (AKA Kalamaki), is the largest Marina in Greece. Regarded by many yacht charter sailors as a separate town, Kalamaki is actually a large marina in a suburb of Athens. Due to its excellent position so close to the Greek capital, it's a great place for starting your yacht charter Greece sailing holidays. Zea Marina lies to the SE of the large commercial port of Piraeus. The Marina has 1,100 mooring berths. Located 45 minutes from the Athens International Airport, Lavrion ( the gate of the Cyclades) is situed 45 minutes south of Athens International Airport. Athens can be visited with ease from any of the marinas on this coast. Yachting in Athens season usually runs from April to the end of October: Whatever your yachting requirements, there will be something in Athens to accomplish your needs: catamaran, sailing, motor, luxury or mega yacht, skippered, bareboat or crewed yacht.
