Yachting in Greece, with its many gulfs and archipelagos, is considered as a yachting paradise. Greece is encircled by two seas, the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea, in which are spread more than 2000 islands and islets. Greece has exquisite and incredible ancient history, awesome architecture and attractive little waterfront villages around the various famous sunny Greek Islands. Yachting in Greece holds a different charisma and charm for sailing yacht, motor yacht, catamaran or luxury yacht charters vacations. Cruising around the Greek islands is the wonderful way in which to appreciate and recognize what makes Greece such a magnificent place to visit. Greece yachting covers so much territory and for ease we have broken Greece charter locations into Athens and four yachting areas: The Ionian Islands, The Aegean & Sporades, The Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
Ionian Island, with some of the most attractive beaches in the world, holds a different personality and magnetism for Yachting in Greece vacations. The Ionian Islands, including Ithaki, the homeland of Odysseus, are situated off the west coast of Greece. These islands are distinctive from each other in their customs and traditions, yet they are a blend of cultures and people from all over Europe. The Islands that you can explore on your yacht include Eptanisa: Kefallonia, Corfu, Zakynthos, Ithaca, Lefkada, Paxi and Kythera. Some things to see include busy touristy but beautiful Corfu as well as Smugglers Cove. Greece’s Aegean Islands are less visited than the Cyclades but perfect place for Yachting in Greece and enjoy in less crowded holidays. The Cyclades hotspots include Mykonos, Delos, Santorini, Sikinos, Paros and Naxos, Serifos, museums, Byzantine castles, lively nightlife, shopping and the famous beaches. The Cyclades are rocky and dry islands with sparkling clear waters and beautiful small white houses. Santorini, in particular, is famous for the most majestic and unforgettable sunsets in the world. Mykonos is well known for its nightlife and superbly beautiful beaches. The Dodecanese group includes the 14 larger islands of Patmos, Lipsi, Leros, Kalymnos, Astypalea, Kos, Symi, Nisyros, Tilos, Rhodes, Khalki and Kasos, together with some 40 smaller islets and rocks – plenty to see and explore on your yachting in Greece. Sailing a south-easterly course from mainland Greece the avid sailor will come upon the Dodecanese islands, like emeralds glinting in the sun, close to the Turkish coast. History has certainly left a legacy behind here with he ruins of old civilizations with colorful local customs and very modern facilities. Sailing north from Athens on sun speckled seas, the Sporades waits to welcome you. They are a small group of islands with ribbons of golden sand along curving shores framed by green, scented pine hills. The islands of the Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos in the Sporades are also very popular, and supply visitors with the perfect setting for a very peaceful and inspiring cruise around these attractive green islands. Every island is of unique beauty and charisma and everyone will enjoy discovering their attractive bays only accessible by yacht.
