Just what is Branding? Essentially it is the standards and values that you will project with your product or services and everything that you use to promote yourself. It is the reputation that you are building that people will connect with when they hear your name. Although the information in this article is applicable to any business, my main focus is to help you brand yourself as you build a personal reputation.

Why is it important to brand yourself? We all want to project a good image of ourselves. If someone does a search on line for you, what will they see? Are you a student working hard to get into a top college or an athlete who wants to attract the attention of recruiters? Are you an individual with a cause or are you educating yourself across specialties or a special niche?

When building your brand, the first thing you have to do is to decide what is important to you and how you will conduct yourself personally and professionally. You will communicate these values consistently through your website. They will be reflected in your blog, your posts, the articles you write to increase traffic, and in the interactions with other internet users.

Create a tag line that reflects your values and helps people remember you and what you stand for. Use it on your website and any other platform as you interact with others on line. Find a forum related to an area where you have some expertise and maintain an active presence. Asking and answering questions there will help you gain information in your area and build a reputation as an expert as well. Make comments on blogs related to your area of interests. It helps you to build relationships with people with similar interests. Utilize your Facebook page, Twitter and other social networking sites to transmit your message.

Build a great website that spells out who you are and what you stand for. Have a blog if you have the time to write frequent and regular blog posts which people can make comments too. Post articles related to your website and change them regularly. Use great visual content and multi-media. Don’t overload your web pages but do have a variety of content that will catch visitor’s interest and that will bring them back. Write interesting articles on subjects you know about and post them to your site, then add links to your site and submit to an article service so that others can post your material as well. This all contributes to raising your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as well as promoting your website and branding yourself.

If lack of time and money is a roadblock to building your brand there are several sites on line that can help you build a website for little or no money. You can also find web hosts that are low cost or free. Unfortunately, there will still be a time costs to make the most of your website endeavor.
