Everyone who has ever played the game of golf has heard somewhere that your posture is extremely important. Your posture must be set up in an athletic manner to be able to perform the golf swing efficiently . When your posture is correct you then have a really good chance to perform the motions necessary to make an effective golf swing. Yes, there is a little more to making a good golf swing than just your posture but it all starts with how you get set up.

We could write a dissertation on all of the correct body movements that must take place to get into the correct posture for your golf swing but we will leave that to our back swing series 1.0 instructional series. Anyways, what we would like to share with you is an idea for positive mental imagery. Once this imagery is understood and accepted by you, you will then be able to achieve exceptional posture every single time you go to perform a golf swing with very little effort on your part.

Here are some key points you will want to practice in you spare time to incorporate a good routine into how you get set up correctly. In the video accompanying this post you can see the line going from center to one O’clock. This line is 60°. When getting set up in your golf posture use your own mental imagery to see this line center to one O’clock. Make sure not to go to far past it as this will cause several problems. Also, make sure you get to it! If you do not this will cause additional problems as well.

I will now explain both faults to you so you will be aware of them when you are getting set up in your golf posture. First, if you go to far past the 60° and feel yourself almost bent over to far forward you will feel yourself starting to loose your balance. Once this happens it will set off a chain of reactionary events in the lower body to counter balance the forward lean or forward tilt, so just make sure to not go past the 60°. Second, if you do not get to the 60° line then you will be to vertical to allow the hips to function properly to make a really great golf swing.

Balance is what the body knows and seeks at all times. With understanding this we can move on to the second part in achieving great posture. You must also visually see the 60° line going from center to five O’clock. This line when visualized correctly will line up perfectly from the hip joint, to the knee cap, to the ground. (See video accompanying this post) This lower body positioning is a mirrored reflection of what is happening in the upper body and why it is so important to understand and visually see. Once you see it and understand it, you will never have issues with your posture again.

When you are able to position your forward tilt (spine) on the 60° line going from center to one O’clock and follow that with getting your lower body positioned correctly on the 60° line going from center to five O’clock; you will find you will be in perfect athletic balance to start the golf swing. This is what is known as Geometric Optimization™ and is the driving force behind the angular harmony that must be present to make a really great golf swing. When these clean unmistakable lines are sought in your golf posture they will create a 90° relationship between the upper and lower body. When this angle is set up correctly and achieved you will be in the most dynamic starting position you will ever be in to start the golf swing.
