A man is recognized by the legacy he leaves behind. What matters is what you accumulate during your lifetime and leave behind for the future generations. Think about what you want to leave behind as an inheritance for your children. What comes first to your mind, money, jewelry and property? Well, that might be a little helpful for your children but that shouldn't be the only thing that you leave them with.
Leave behind something that will really make a difference in your children's life. Money and property would only help them a little bit to settle down in life and start with a career on their own. They are temporary and wouldn't last that really long. And what after the money is exhausted? What would be they left with? Leave something that they can cherish through their life, some thing that would remain with them permanently.
Even during your life you might do a lot for your kids. You provide them with shelter and good education; you pay for their every need and fulfill their every demand. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. What matters is what you have taught them to do for themselves, what skills you have taught them that would help them in real life and make them a successful person.
You would not be around forever to take care of your children so you must make it a priority to teach them how to take care of themselves and how to be successful and a kind hearted human being. Spend time with your children and tell them about what you learnt through your life experiences. Give them advice on how to deal with certain situations they would come across later in life, teach them how to make good decisions.
Some of things that you should teach your children during your lifetime are:
· Teach your children about the power of hope. Hope is what would keep them alive and vibrant and would keep them motivated to keep working hard in life.
· Teach them about the benefits of living a truthful life. Encourage them to tell in truth even in tough situations. Tell them to be truthful in all their dealings; this would take them a long way in life.
· Teach them about the virtue of commitment. Encourage them to be committed to whatever tasks they take up in life. Your children should be taught to work hard in any activity they take up, that is what will help them be successful in life later.
· Teach your children to dream big. Encourage them to have big dreams and encourage them to believe in themselves, and to believe in the fact that any dream can come true if you work hard for it.
· Explain to your children that it is not possible to achieve anything in life unless they work hard for it.
After you leave what would be left behind is what skills and virtues you incorporated in your children leave behind a worthy inheritance.
