Many people know what a duvet cover is, but what is a duvet (due-vay), and where does it come from? In the United States, we hear the phrases duvet covers and down comforters and overall, most people know what those items are. In other countries such as Canada and Europe, duvet refers to the actual comforter (down comforter) and the duvet cover is the protection to the duvet much like a pillowcase is to a pillow. Duvet is a French word that translates to "down" (referring to the down in birds); this is where the United States gets the phrase "down comforter". As a result, a duvet cover refers to the covering of a duvet/down comforter.
When looking at a cover, there may be a few things to consider. What color should you consider? What should your duvet cover to be made out of? What should the thread count be? In most instances, a down comforter is plain in color, usually white. Most people like to have their bedspreads match a certain color or design in their bedroom. A duvet cover may be just what they are looking for! Duvet covers come in a variety of colors and unique designs; a person will be able to find just the cover to fit their every need.
Duvet covers are not made to the same quality; some duvet covers are made with silk, while others are made with cotton. The best answer to knowing what to have your duvet cover made out of is the your preference. Some people don’t like silk, where you might. However important these things are, the main quality to look for in a duvet cover is the thread count. The higher the thread count is in a duvet cover, the better quality the cover will be.
A duvet cover is a very practical piece to add to your bedroom. A down comforter (or duvet) would be extremely difficult to toss in the washer, however a duvet covering is easily removed from the down comforter and put in the wash with the other sheets and pillowcases, which makes washing and keeping the duvet/down comforter clean, quite simple. Duvet covers may come separately, or in a bedroom set. A bedroom set usually comes with matching pillows and shams. You may not like having the extra accessories that come in a set, so a single duvet cover would be what you are looking for.
You now know what a duvet (down comforter) and duvet cover really are and how the two items relate to each other. It’s easy to see that buying a duvet cover would help your bedroom become the luxurious, peaceful room you have always wanted it to be.
Eli Hickman offers high quality duvet covers and down comforters for all who are craving a beautiful bedroom and a perfect night’s rest.
