The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA recommends that mold growth, especially black mold, should be treated immediately. The reason is that several health issues are caused by the indoor growth of this harmful fungus. It should not to be taken lightly and as a first step, all water sources should be removed. The health risks may vary from individuals and can be very severe. It is best that you know about the symptoms before the health issues aggravate.
The fact that you experience black mold symptoms in a few days or a few months depends on your immune system. People with strong immune system and strong against allergies have been observed to tolerate symptoms for a very long time, whereas there are instances when people have been affected instantly.
The most common and usual symptoms are allergic reactions. Black mold usually poses greater threat to people with allergies. Not to be taken lightly, it has been known to cause allergic reactions to the extent of turning into chronic illnesses. People suffering from allergic rhinitis, sinusitis or asthma are at greater risk, and these people make a large percentage of the people in America. If you experience allergic reaction in certain areas, you should quickly get it checked for mold infestation.
Black mold also poses threat to people with chronic diseases, especially those with immunodeficiency. Such individuals may include AIDS patients, people with bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses, infants with undeveloped immune system or elderly with weak immune system. If you have such an individual residing in your home, monitor their health and try to take precautionary measures to prevent mold growth.
Apart from these, there are a number of uncommon but more severe risks that black mold may cause. In the worst scenarios, it is known to have caused irreparable damage or failure of human organs. If it enters the body, it starts to form colonies on organs and eventually consumes it. This in turn produces mycotoxins, which are airborne poisonous toxins. Mycotoxins can easily enter a host through skin contact, wounds or inhalation. Not only can it damage every organ in the body, it can also cause vascular damage. Deterioration of veins and arteries will then result in internal bleeding, which can be fatal.
If you experience any of the above symptoms, consult a doctor immediately and get your house checked. If you find yourself capable, you can even follow the many online guides on how to remove black mold. People with chronic diseases should hire professional help rather than risking damage to their health.
