Why is it important to be eco-friendly? Every year billions of items that cannot disintegrate are thrown away each year, these items just sit there forever. Sure there is way to decrease their size, but we've already been doing this for hundreds of years. Thousands of animals are also harmed each year from our lack of concern of their homes.
There is a ton of simple ways make your home or business more environmentally friendly without having to spend a lot more money. One minor change that can make a huge difference overall lies in the doormat. Many doormats are made out of synthetic materials that cannot be recycled, and brand new rubber which does not disintegrate. Why not replace your synthetic mat back with rubber with a mat that's made from coconut fibres and has a rubber backing made from recycled rubber. They last for years, the coconut fibres decompose, and the rubber backing can be re-recycled and used for a variety of other products.
For business owners that are looking to maintain an upscale appearance, there is still an elegant eco-friendly matting option for you. These are the waterkeeper mats also known as waterhog mats, these mats are high quality and have a very professional esthetic. They use little nubs to trap dirt and water and they are made from 100% post-consumer recycled P.E.T. polyester fiber system, made from recycled plastic bottles. The rubber backing is made of almost 20% recycled car tires. The waterhog mats also come in a wide variety of colors, cuts, and patterns.
There is also eco-friendly indoor matting options, such as the rolls of coir matting, this matting makes for really nice stair runners, but can be cut up and used anywhere within your house. Most carpet is made from synthetic fibers that cannot decompose, so using as much coir in your house as you can is a great alternative for taking a step towards becoming greener.
Taking one small step towards becoming greener and just changing your doormat to one that is environmentally friendly can make a huge difference, could you imagine if from here on out everyone only bough eco-friendly doormats? That would make a massive different overall. So next time your find yourself needing a new mat pick up one that'll be good for the environment, and if your old doormat is rubber backed, recycle it! It's a team effort to make the earth green, let's work together.
