Content is King- Don't ever underestimate the value of quality content on your site. You'll lose the interest of your viewers rapidly if you don't provide them with anything intriguing to look at. Make sure your website has a lot of good information on it. Everything from the business' background to personal profiles for your employees. Your site should paint a clear picture of what you do for your prospective customers and clients. The more questions you can answer up-front on your website, the less likely the prospect is going to be to leave your site to look for answers on a competitor's site.
Reach out to your prospects - we all like to feel a connection with the people we hand our money to. Make a connection with your prospective clients before they ever step foot in your office or store by including a biography and local images on your site. Showing your prospects that you work in their neighborhood, assures them that you share a community and are therefore, trustworthy. Don't be afraid to include some background information on a biography page. This is just one more way in which your site visitors can understand who you are professionally, as well as personally. Having these simple personal touches on your website will really make your company stand out amongst the run-of-the-mill, stock content sites that some companies use.

You could also include a corkboard page where clients can post flyers to spread the word about their upcoming event. If your corkboard page becomes popular, you may even see an increase in site traffic, beginning with that page.
Think about the folks you do business with in your daily life. Why do you like doing business with them? Are they approachable? Timely? Professional? Borrow the examples you come up with as a basis for what you want to make sure you include on your website as it relates to your company. Making a personal connection with the use of good content on your site is going to get you on the right track to stand out over your competition. Then, you can turn your interest to Search Engine Optimization.
