The Grand Canyon Skywalk reigns as Vegas' most popular outdoor attraction. For good reason, too: Where else on the globe are you able to walk 70 feet beyond the edge and be lifted 4,000 feet over the Colorado River? If defying gravity thrills you, here are seven things you need to know before you go:
- Where is the Grand Canyon Skywalk Located?
The Sky Walk is found approximately 120 miles east of Las Vegas, NV, at Grand Canyon West. Motor coach, chopper, and plane tours from Sin City take 2.5 hours, 45 minutes, and 25 minutes respectively.
- What is the True Price of Admission?
There are three packages. You need the Legacy Gold Package, which costs $87.69 per adult. It includes Sky Walk tickets and full access to Grand Canyon West, including Native American Indian demonstrations, Guano Point, Eagle Point, Hulapai Ranch, the shuttle bus, lunch and cowboy performances.
- Exactly how many people are permitted on the Sky Walk at one time?
One hundred and twenty people can be on the bridge at the same time. It was built to hold 800 people or a weight equivalent to71 fully packed Boeing 747 airplanes.
- Will there be long lines?
Yes, there might be. The Sky Walk is the canyon's most popular attraction. Over 200,000 people take a look at it a year. Reservations can be made. You can also purchase VIP tickets to speed up your wait. Without a doubt wear comfortable shoes. In case you have an iPod, give consideration to bringing it.
- What should I wear and what must I bring?
Absolutely get a water bottle (full) and sunscreen lotion. Dress adequately: Wind-resistant and cool in the summer months and warm layers in the winter months.
No outside food or beverages (except water) are permitted. There's a pretty good snack bar if you get the munchies. Bear in mind - Legacy Gold Packages come with lunch.
Bring a camera and additional batteries and memory sticks. Regretfully, digital cameras are banned from the Glass Walkway because they may scratch the glass deck (each panel supposedly costs $200,000 each) if dropped. Professional photographers can be found on the Skywalk to take your picture, which you can pick up in the gift store.
- Is there a time limit?
At present, there is no time limit, so take your time and relish the unbelievable landscape. The very best views can be had on the right side of the deck.
- Is there anything else to do in addition to the Sky Walk?
A lot. There is the Indian Village with genuine dwellings, Eagle Point, Guano Point, the Hualapai Ranch, the Market, and the outdoor amphitheater. The basic Legacy package ($43.05 per person) gets you full access to all of these points of interest excluding the Skywalk.
Looking for a quick and easy day trip from Las Vegas? The Grand Canyon Skywalk is the ticket. Choose carefully how you visit as the cost can add up. Bus, helicopter, and airplane tours are the most affordable route to go, especially if you book on-line direct with the tour operator. I regularly save up to 35 percent using this method. So put the Skywalk on your list of things you can do. It'll be the highlight of your trip.
