When it comes to the process of being treated for your personal injury, there are a few steps that you do need to adhere to. Doing so can be the difference between having a successful compensation and jeopardizing it. Once you do suffer an injury, it is imperative that you get hold of urgent medical attention. After this has been done, you need to assess and see under what category your injury falls under. There are three main categories that would spring to mind. One is known as Workers Compensation, the other is Motor Vehicle Accident while the last one is Public Liability Claim.
The process of getting compensated when it comes to personal injury claims differs somewhat across the three categories. If you have sustained an injury at the workplace, then you need to report this injury to your employer. An incident report would be made at this point in time and you will be given reports to complete. Thereafter, the company's insurance company will be notified on the correct steps that should be taken. If you have suffered a vehicle accident, it is imperative that you gather as much information about the other driver involved. Make sure that you also get information from the other witnesses as well.
Of course, this can only be done if you are in a stable condition. The accident should be reported to the police and a Traffic Incident Number or TFN should be received. If you do not get a report then you could be jeopardizing your compensation claim. If you find yourself in the third category, remember that you need to make an incident report to whoever owns the property or business where you received an injury. Make sure that you also get information about the surroundings of the accident and the name and contact details of their insurance company.
On a general note while you will be encouraged to get the medical help of a doctor first, you must also remember that you will have to make a claim thereafter. If you fall into the Workers Compensation category, you need to complete the Claim Form supplied by your employer. The majority of Claim Forms may be found on the WorkCover websites of your state. Make sure you lodge this with your employer's insurance company with the Medical Certificate from your doctor. In the event of a Motor Vehicle Accident claim, ensure that you complete the applicable forms sent to you by insurance company of the person at fault and return it together with the Medical Certificate.
Last but certainly not least, when it comes to a Public Liability Claim, make sure that you complete the PIPA Form (Personal Injury Proceedings Act). However, this form can only be requested by a solicitor. Once you have completed this form, you need to submit it to insurance company of the person who is at fault. On a general note, you could hire the services of a lawyer to help you out when it comes to such submitting of documents.
