Growing your own plants, fruit and vegetables organically offers a wide variety of benefits. Organic fruit and vegetables will not only provide you and your family with a variety of health benefits but will also help to create a healthier atmosphere within your garden.

Growing organically enables you to be provided with a selection of your own healthy food. As well as growing your own fruit and vegetables, you can also grow a selection of herbs. All your home-grown food will be chemical free, enabling you to be provided with delicious, healthy food.

Improving your soil will help you to create a healthier atmosphere for your plants. Instead of using fertilisers and other soil products that contain chemicals, you can create a healthier garden by making your own compost. If you have not already done so, then start composting household waste such as vegetable peelings, corrugated paper and used tea bags as well as garden waste such as twigs, weeds and cuttings.

When creating your own organic compost, it is vital that you know what is suitable to use as compost. Compost should only consist of household waste that is healthy to use and not products such as cooked meat or pastry. These items will not compost well and will instead rot, making them unsuitable for organic gardening.

Pests can often be a problem when it comes to growing your own plants, fruit or vegetables. To reduce problems with pests, use organic insect repellents or your own safer methods of pest removal in order to avoid damaging your plants with chemicals. Sticky traps and blasts of water should help to remove pests, but focus only on the insects that are likely to damage your plants. Some insects and wildlife, such as ladybirds, frogs and birds, will help to get rid of peskier insects, helping you to keep your garden healthy.

To improve your chances of successfully growing your own organic fruit and vegetables, it is vital that you research which methods and sprays are safe to use. Avoid any weed killers or wood preservatives that contain harmful chemicals, as these can damage your plants or lawn. Making sure you are aware of what is and is not suitable for your garden will enable you to create a healthier environment for not only your plants but also for yourself, your family and for any regular visitors to your garden.
