Usually Mother’s Day means mom doesn’t have to cook, clean or do anything she doesn’t want to do. But instead of just taking her out to dinner, why not make a party out of it. See how many generations you can get together and have a great big celebration. Even the smallest budgets allow spoiling mom a little on this special day. You could even take up a collection if you start early enough; this will help tremendously and even expand your party some.
You can choose to go to a restaurant, many have private back rooms for parties such as this, or you can order in, especially if you are a mom too, and have them at your or moms home. Where ever you decide, make sure mom gets her favorite meal. Invite aunts and uncles, cousins, grandchildren, husbands and all who are close to your guests of honor. You don’t want to invite too many guests or the focus may be lost from whom it’s intended, but you want the closes of family there to share this special day. Have the little ones make special cards for moms and grandmothers to express their love.
Rent a projector and set up a sheet or screen if you have one. Gather all the pictures from all the generations you have and/or can borrow and put together a photomontage. This will surely make mom, grandma and great grandma smile. Showing these larger than life memories will bring you all even closer together, not to mention having the little ones get to see how things used to be, or how grandma looked as a young girl will be exciting. If possible gather all the home videos as well. It’s not often these get shared with entire generations.
Make sure to take pictures for future events and to cherish forever. Getting as many generations in a photo is nice to have and will be appreciated in the future.
If getting everyone together at once is impossible, make your party smaller, but just as special with mom and grandmother or mom and you and your children. Either way, as long as mom is honored, this event will be remembered and cherished for a lifetime.
