How would you like to feel confident and rest easy knowing that you are giving your body the best chance at fending off colds and flu's? Well, what I'm about to share with you are my "5 secret strategies" to boosting your immune system so you can drastically reduce those unbelievably tired, grumpy, stuffy, achy, and never wanting to get off the couch, blah days!
#1 – Eat The Proper Food:
The first thing you want to do, and the most important, is start by changing your daily diet. You must be putting the very best natural, wholesome, raw organic food into your body as this is one of the most effective ways to naturally boost your immune system. All your body systems must have the best "fuel" to use so that they all run smoothly. Just as you would put premium fuel into your sports car to ensure maximum performance, the quality of the food you put into your body will ensure that everything is running as efficiently as it can.
#2 - Exercise:
The second thing you want to do is exercise at least 3x per week for a minimum of 30 minutes. Regular exercise is a crucial strategy for increasing your resistance to illness. There is evidence that regular, moderate exercise can reduce your risk for respiratory illness by boosting your immune system. In fact, one study found that people who exercised regularly (five or more days a week) cut their risk of having a cold by close to 50 percent. And, in the event they did catch a cold, their symptoms were much less severe than among those who did not exercise.
#3 - Get Plenty Of High Quality Sleep:
If you are not getting enough sleep, or enough restorative sleep, you are putting yourself at risk for bacterial and viral infections. The more well rested you are, the better your immune system is at fighting off colds and flu’s.
#4 - Address emotional stress in your life:
Emotional stress can predispose you to infections and can make cold symptoms worse. Daily stress can really decrease your immune system and on top of that, when we are stressed we usually make poor food choices and consume high fat, high calorie, sugary rich foods.
#5 – Supplement With Vitamin D:
My fifth secret is not only the easiest strategy for boosting your immune system and fending off colds and flu’s, but is one of the most effective ways to increase your immunity. Supplement your diet with high quality vitamin D and get plenty of sunshine. Numerous studies are showing that a deficiency in vitamin D is correlated with more sick days and time away from work. The problem for most people though is the inability to get outside when it is sunny and almost impossible to get enough vitamin D from the sun in the winter. For those in the winter with no or very limited exposure to sunshine, 4,000-5,000 units per day would seem appropriate for most adults. For children the dose can be half that.
The key though is to make sure you monitor your vitamin D levels by blood testing, to make sure your levels are therapeutic and not toxic. I advocate getting your vitamin D levels tested regularly.
So right now, I want you to start by going to your local grocery store and choose wholesome, organic foods for you and your family. You will be glad you did.
