Spain is one of the all time favorite holiday destinations and 2012 will be no exception with an estimated 57 million visitors entering the country to enjoy the many beaches, cities and attractions on offers. Las Ramblas, Barcelona
The 1.2 kilometer long central boulevard of Barcelona runs right through the heart of the city. Barcelona's most liveliest place you can find the Barri Gotic, the wax museum, the Christopher Columbus monument and the Modernist Boqueria Market.
The Prado Museum, Madrid
Spain's National art museum, located in Madrid. The museum has collections of some of Europe's most finest art dating back from the 12th century. The museum holds about 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings. A must see when visiting Madrid
Cathedral, Cordoba
Known as the great Mosque of Cordoba, known by locals as the Mezquita Cathedral is a World heritage site. The cathedral is most attractive for its arcaded hypostyle hall, with 856 columns of jasper, granite, onyx and marble. The Mosque resembles features similar to the Great Mosque of Damascus.
The Alhambra, Granada
The Alhambra is located on top of the hill to the West of the city of Granada. The Alhambra was built on its own unique column, which cannot be found in any other building. There is so much to see, Alcazaba, the palaces, the Baths, Patio of the Lions, Emperor's Chambers and the wonderful Generalife gardens.
Sagrada Familia, Barcelona
Most of you will have already heard of Guadi, the famous architect in Barcelona who gave his last years to this project before he died in 1926. When he died the construction was only 25% complete and it is estimated that the full completion of the Sagrada Familia won't be until 2026! It is impossible to find any other building like it. It is truly unique.
Camino de Santiago
The pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia where the apostle Saint James is thought to be buried. One of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times it is now used as by hikers, bikers and horse riders who enjoy taking along the long route.
The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao boasts full of modern and contemporary art. Curves on the building are random and extraordinary shapes made from a mixture of limestone, titanium and glass walls to provide light. In the center of the exhibition areas, a metal like flower skylight is above that allows light to illuminate the whole space.
Picasso Museum, Barcelona
The most extensive collection of artwork by the 20th century Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. One of the most visited museums in Barcelona, it is a must see for anyone visiting the city. The museum opened in 1963 with some 574 peices of art work. Later Picasso added around 1000 items from his early days before settling in France.
Church of Santa Monica
This new and already famous Roman Catholic Church oozes with character and the architecture is pretty amazing. Located in Rivas-Vaciamadrid is a must see for anyone interested in either religion or architecture. Projected by Vicens + Ramos Arquitectos the Church has unique edges which stick out from all angles.
Sabatini Gardens, Madrid
Part of the Royal Palace in Madrid the Sabatini Gardens opened to the public in 1978 by King Juan Carlos I. Statues of past Spanish kings, well shaped hedges, a pool and fountains are all around the park for you to soak up some of the Spanish Royal theme. Perfect in all months of the year especially in Summer.
Overall Spain has a good selection of Museums and sights for you to enjoy and don't forget there is also the Alcazaba in Malaga, the fantastic National park of Doñana and a day at Mini Hollywood in Tabernas. Holiday rentals in Spain depend on where you are staying, normally a choice of villas and country corjio's in rural areas. Townhouses and apartments in Barcelona and Madrid are the better choice for city areas.
