People often dream about the perfect job or career. There is no perfect job. Some jobs pay more than others. The working conditions is some careers appear to be better than in other careers. All careers look better from outside.
Let’s look at the ultimate ePeople often dream about the perfect job or career. There is no perfect job. Some jobs pay xample of "dream" jobs. There are several people who would love to be president of the United States. Young children envision themselves and aspire to be president. Thee is prestige and glamour. The popular image projects by the media is, "The most powerful person in the world."
What does a person give up to be president? First, there is the lengthy and expensive campaign. Whether you are successful in your attempt or not, you see the press and public scrutinize every word you utter and give an account into their deep understanding of your motives.
You lose any semblance of privacy or personal safety for you and your family. You work long hours and are on call for world crisis or potential crisis 24/7. You age several years for every year you are in office.
People think how great it would be to be a professional athlete, but there are trade-offs. You lose privacy and your career is relatively short. Some people think about being an attorney, a doctor, or a teacher. There is no perfect job.
You might think you would enjoy the prestige of walking into a crowded waiting room to give the family a report, and every person in the room hangs on your every word. That is respect! Stop and consider that you might have just struggled through a 6 hour surgery. You gave up your youth and accrued a huge financial burden to study and earn your degree.
The same is true in the legal profession, except you might be required to work an average of 60 to 70 hours a week. Just think of all those lawyer jokes, whether deserving or undeserving. In fact 97% percent of all attorneys give the good ones a bad name.
Seriously, think of being a teacher. Teaching follows the same route as the other professions, except teachers are too rarely receive adequate recognition as professionals. Therefore, the financial returns never materialize, no matter how hard you word or attempt to improve in your craft. Now, you are competing against the media in an information technology age, for the attention of your learners. To which voice, the media or the teacher, has this generation been attuned?
Almost every English teacher I know has dreamed of being a writer. They have the experience, skills and a command of the techniques, but face exhaustion and burn-out. Grading 30 papers over a weekend can dampen your enthusiasm toward writing or reading.
You dream the life, but a high percentage of members from each profession probably dreams more about writing about writing about their careers and life experiences in their professions. I have heard it said that few writers ever dream about being anything other than a better writer.
What should be considered in a career choice? Do you enjoy the work? Do you have the aptitude for the work? Have you had a chance to experience the work before committing training and the eventual career? Does the work provide enough variety? Is the work challenging and rewarding? Is the work too challenging? Is there a high rate of burn-out in the chosen field? Do you feel you are providing a vital service or product, of just punching the clock, and biding you time? Is there a demand now and a projected trend for the work? Do the benefits and compensation outweigh the liabilities?
These questions should be considered carefully, as an average career from age 21 to 65, is 44 years. Multiply that by 50 weeks a year for 2,200 weeks. Then multiply 40 hours a week by 22,000 and you have given 88,000 hours of your life to working.
A major consideration for the Information Age is to Google the internet to seek careers in Information Technology. There are career opportunities in selling products and services on a web page; managing social media for others and being paid well; writing articles and press releases; or, creating and publishing videos. The list can go on and on.
If a people decide to open an online business, they might have the challenge and variety of shouldering all the responsibilities listed above. Whether you sell business services, products such as gifts ideas, or business needs such as leatherbriefcases, iPads, or Kindles, you get to decide whether you work 10 hours a day or 2. You decide whether you want to work in you home, or go to Starbuck’s. you determine when you want to work and where.
Whether you are just entering the job market, want to change careers, or looking for a retirement supplement, investigator the Internet possibilities. With some further investigation, you might find others who have changed the career to help explore possibilities for yours. Find or create a niche on the Internet. Live your dream!
