Teeth whitening can have very positive effect for patients, including cleaner, whiter teeth leading to improved confidence in the patient’s smile.
Zoom teeth whitening is one of the latest innovations in improving the appearance of teeth. The procedure uses a heated lamp to activate the whitening gel, which increases the rate of the process. The procedure can be completed within three 15 minute sessions and results in a smile which can be up to eight shades lighter depending on the individual.
Your dentist or hygienist will thoroughly clean the teeth in the first instance. Then they will make a record of the shade of your teeth using either a colour chart or digital photography. Next they will prepare for the procedure by placing protection around the gums so that only your teeth are exposed to the lightening gel, this is very important as the gel contains a high concentration of peroxide. The gel is then applied and exposed to a light to activate it; after enough time has passed the gel is removed and the dentist will evaluate the final result again using a colour chart or by taking a digital photograph.
The main advantage of choosing Zoom teeth whitening is that it is a completely safe and painless procedure which is clinically proven and will cause no harm to the teeth enamel. The procedure can only be carried out by qualified dental professionals, so patients know that they are always in safe hands.
The results of zoom teeth whitening are long lasting, however teeth will begin to discolour after a period of time, which is why many dentists offer a home whitening kit to ‘top up’ so that you can keep your whiter smile for longer. Dentists advise against consuming dark coloured food and drinks including red wine, coffee and tea for at least one week after the treatment to maintain your smile.
Dentists will consider your suitability for teeth whitening based on whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding, a smoker and/or if you have sensitive teeth and gums. Smokers will be advised to give up as this will increase the chances that your teeth will return to their original state at a much higher rate than non smokers. Those with sensitive teeth may be advised against teeth whitening as there is a small risk that the gel could cause the patient discomfort. Zoom teeth whitening is not recommended for those that are pregnant or breastfeeding.
