As per reports, in Australia smoking scenes are restricted in movies for the health care of teens and kids. John Faulkner the Labor senator of Australia started taking strict actions against Australian Films, which have smoking scenes. Showing smoking scenes in movies is very dangerous as it promotes smoking among teenagers. Young adults like to watch movies and they follow their favorite actor or actress and there are more chances of them becoming regular smoker.
China had already taken this action in movies following complaints from public. China’s film has issued a circular ordering to reduce smoking scenes in movies as well scenes which need to show smoking should be as short as possible said the circular. And circular has also given a right to censor boards that ‘try to cut smoking scenes as possible’.
Smoking is an invitation to cancer, heart attacks, chronic lung disease, kids start to smoke before understanding about risks and after that become addicted and then regret it. Another research shows the usefulness of showing anti-smoking advertisements in movie theaters rapidly ahead of films to decrease the effect of scenes depicting movie stars smoking.
United States organizations that are involved in prevention of tobacco use including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local health departments, and non-profit groups such as the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, and American Heart Association —fund or otherwise encourage showing of these anti-smoking advertisements.
Three movie companies have started restricting on-screen smoking in their movies for children and teenagers. And these commendable companies are: Time Warner, Comcast and Walt Disney. Smoking scenes have decreased by 96% in those companies over the last five years. And youth rated movies had no smoking at all. During the past few years, the amount of on-screen smoking scenes has dropped to about 16 billion.
Tobacco control movement compels government to take proper action to control tobacco use as well as tobacco smokers to quit it. All over the world, the bad habit of smoking is increasing and becoming a style of this century. There is serious need of some organizations to deal with the problem of smoking, many thanks to the anti-smoking organizations too. Tobacco control movement is a set addressing the harmful effects of tobacco smoke to the public.
A research shows that within 20 minutes of quitting smoking, blood flow, body temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure come to normal. It also improves breath smell and therefore enhances social life as well as increases confidence. After 10 or 15 years of quitting smoking, the possibility of developing any kind of heart diseases or cancers returns to the similar level of a non-smoker. As people started realizing harmful effects of smoking, tobacco control movement started gaining fame. Anti-smoking organizations have opinion that tobacco is a poison and thus, encourages people to quit smoking for their own health. Such movements also help to educate teenagers against ill-effects of smoking.
