Industrial compressors are commonplace in factories and other settings where gas is dealt with on a regular basis. They ensure gas leaks aren't allowed to take place, and resulting dangers to human health and buildings.
Turbo
Common applications of this type include sulphur recovery, waste water treatment, flue gas desulphurisation, and elsewhere as important components of blower systems. One of the main features of this design is its high efficiency.
Screw
This type of compression technology has been around since the 1930s. Originally oil-free, further developments did see the creation of oil injected controlled capacity compressors too.
These are used in applications where large quantities of high pressure air are required. Because of the device's constant sweeping motion, there is barely any pulsation or surging of flow involved in the processes, that can be a danger when using the piston kind. This is a great benefit, allowing for the screw type to be used in large industrial capacities, and to power heavy air tools.
It's not uncommon for companies to provide full screw compressor systems as opposed to just the device on its own.
Piston
As stated earlier, piston compressors do involve high levels of pulsation or surging of flow so should be employed with care and precision.
The piston type can commonly be found in use in the food industry, and petrochemical and oil refining industries where it is used for both hazardous and non-hazardous gas handling.
Diaphragm
The diaphragm type of compressor is particularly good at providing non-contaminating, leak-tight compression of gases. This characteristic is highly important to some of the most common applications in industries including chemical, nuclear, and petrochemical. Diaphragm types are also used in the non-industrial area of diving! Used together with other equipment, they allow for people to be able to breathe under water.
Heavy Duty Reciprocating
This is a specific type of piston compressor that is one of the best at ensuring uninterrupted performance. Its common applications include refrigeration plants, chemical plants, oil refineries, gas pipelines, and natural gas processing plants.
There is a link between the drinks industry and this kind of compressor. Can you guess what it is? The HD reciprocating type is used in the blowing of plastic bottles! Think about all the technology involved in making sure we can always buy a chilled drink on a warm summer's day.
As the types of industrial compressors vary, so to do their applications. It's therefore vital to employ the correct kind for your requirements. Using the wrong one could cause major problems, and even pose a threat to anyone working in the vicinity.
